Weekly Update: November 29, 2016

Dear Family,

You may have noticed this display in our lobby. Cross Creek is doing a holiday toy drive benefitting Daniel's Kids. This non-profit agency provides professional assistance to nearly two thousand children and families each day. Please donate new gifts for specific ages and gender, put them in gift bags (no wrapping paper) and place them in the lobby no later than December 11. Examples of gift ideas: clothing, personal hygiene items, linens, bikes, athletic equipment, science kits, dolls (any Disney characters), $25 gift cards for older children to Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc. Please, no stuffed animals. There are flyers at the display with more information if you're interested in participating.

Reminder that this weekend we will be partaking of the Lord's Supper. It is important to prepare ourselves for this sacrament, but what are we to do precisely? The Westminster Larger Catechism has some excellent guidance on this question,

Q. 171. How are they that receive the sacrament of the Lord’s supper to prepare
themselves before they come unto it?

They that receive the sacrament of the Lord’s supper are, before they come, to prepare
themselves thereunto, by examining themselves of their being in Christ, of their sins
and wants; of the truth and measure of their knowledge, faith, repentance; love to God and the brethren, charity to all men, forgiving those that have done them wrong; of their desires after Christ, and of their new obedience; and by renewing the exercise of these graces, by serious meditation, and fervent prayer.

Please keep our sister in Christ, Diane Rabideau Wise in your prayers as she mourns the passing of her brother, Steve. Further details on the reception, funeral and burial can be found here.

See you this weekend in worship.

Blessings,

Paul
