When he had gone out, Jesus said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” - John 13:31-34 ESV
Maundy Thursday recalls Jesus washing of the disciples' feet (John 13:1-20), his promise that one of the disciples will betray him (John 13:21-30), the giving of a new commandment (John 13:31-35), and Jesus foretelling Peter's denial (John 13:36-38). These events happened during the institution of the Lord's Supper in the upper room. This Thursday evening, at 7 pm., we will gather quietly for prayer, reading and exhortation from Scripture, and faithful observance of the Supper. There will be no music or childcare. This is a simple, yet deeply profound service that focuses on three things: prayer, the Word, and Sacrament. These elements are what we refer to as the "means of grace."
Please prepare yourself for this service through prayer, the reading of Scripture as you discern the gospel, and seeking unity through forgiveness and reconciliation with anyone whom you have anything against (1 Corinthians 11).
Reminder that we have two Easter Sunday services (9 am and 10:30 am). Heather Coggins is always looking for volunteers to serve children's ministry, so please contact her asap if you can help.
