Vision 2017

Dear Cross Creek,

Our week began with UNITY SUNDAY, during which we came together as a family to share a meal and talk about what's in store for Cross Creek this year.

At our meeting we established a couple of definitions: A "mission" describes the overall reason why a church exists. Our stated mission at Cross Creek is to engage our community with the transforming power of the gospel. In other words, to make disciples (which is the mission given by Jesus to every church). A mission is an ongoing reality and will never be finished until Jesus returns.

A "vision," on the other hand, describes what the journey ahead will look like over a certain period of time. A vision is a measurable, attainable goal (or prayer request!). When a vision is achieved, a new one is put in its place. What is our 2017 vision? To become a vibrant, healthy, and growing church of 200 members, through the renewal of our worship, discipleship, and community life together.

Our immediate goal is to pray and work toward renewal in every area of our church life, with the hope that an evidence of God's hand at work would be seeing our membership grow from 150 to 200 members.

We want to dream big dreams for Cross Creek. Not for our sake, but for Jesus's sake. Not for our glory, but for His. We want to see his invisible kingdom made visible right here in Saint Johns. We don't just want a great church – we want a great community that is continually being transformed as people encounter our risen Savior and lives are changed. When we talk about adding to our numbers, we aren't talking about spreadsheets, we're talking about people, with names and faces and families and needs. We praying for those who don't yet know Jesus to come to know him. And we're praying not just for our current neighbors, but for those who don't even live here yet.

What do you dream for Cross Creek? What are your prayer requests for Saint Johns? Most likely, our dreams and our prayers are too small. Let's walk forward together as a people of faith, eagerly seeking God to do what only He can do. When the time is right, we will be talking about long-term vision. But our immediate focus is on becoming a vibrant, healthy, and growing church right now, this year, in anticipation of what's to come. There is much work to be done. Let us move forward together in unity, humbly seeking the mind of Christ as the body of Christ.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV)

In future posts, I will share with you some of the specific goals and strategies that we discussed at the meeting, as well as new developments as they occur. As always, please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for current Groups and upcoming Events.

Grace and peace,

Keith Snow
